So, sorry I've been off the radar for a while - leaving Ghana and coming back to America has been....intense.
For the first two days Grant and I hid at the Magic Door bed and Breakfast in Northfield - fireplace, cheese tray, whirlpool tub, so awesome.
Once we'd caught our breath a little, we went to my parent's place in Hudson, and kept busy sorting my files and papers, renewing my drivers license, dragging down all the boxes of packed things I'd stored in the attic, and being appalled at owning so much stuff. I ditched about 60% of my belongings and clothes, and I still feel uncomfortably own-y. Owning-ing? Actually, we've got no word in English for the state of owning too much junk, except maybe onerous.
I saw a few people, but was honestly so overwhelmed by everything we kept a low profile. I'd heard some folk weren't even aware we were back in the states yet - sorry! We _are_ really excited to see everyone again, but I think we'll be able to handle large socializations once we've adjusted to the culture shock and stopped being terrified by things like, the grocery store. and interstates.
So were keeping things low key as best we can while we scramble to put together the pieces of an American life. We do have temporary phone numbers, and a place to live in Madison!, and we bought hangers. But no furniture, or jobs, or tolerance for high fructose corn syrup.
Anyway, Madison: we're renting two rooms in a house (on the northside) recommended by our good friend R, and so far everything seems pretty amazing. We totally lucked out getting great roommates.
and, today we'll go to Grant's parent's place to see his relatives, and be back for the weekend.

Regarding high fructose corn syrup: Good, keep it that way. Nasty stuff.
Good luck re-assimilating and finding a job. <3
